Like I have said before joining derby is an amazing experience. Going from Fresh Meat to rookie was pretty rad too but, as exciting as it was it was also a bit sad.
Sort of a closed chapter in the book of derby love.
Recruiting new people is part of the game, to keep a league going there has to be enough members for many reasons, but how did the vets really feel about recruiting new ones?
It was time for the new group of rookies to join the new Fresh Meat cult and try to lure innocent people into this.
The idea that our first Meet and Greet we were going to attend and be a part of was pretty damn scary not gonna lie:
I assumed everyone felt either overwhelmed with excitement to meet new people or completely skeptical; so I left it to the pros and got the opinions of the team.
I asked a bunch of our vets about their experiences and feelings towards meeting the group that I was lucky enough to join with, and unbeknownst to me (as well as some of the the others I am sure) they were not only excited to have new people join, they were eager.
Having the vet skaters that we were lucky enough to have, definitely made the experience a lot easier. I don't have to keep going on about how amazing my teammates are you probably get it by now; but I totally will because, well duh who wouldn't?
One of the vet skaters said this about welcoming potential teammates:
"Like anything in life, being part of a derby team can come with its ups and downs. The team was in need of fresh faces, eager to learn, dedicated and with a determination that not all people have".
